NAGOMI

“Nagomi” means “to become friendly and peaceful”

We operate 9 insurance business facilities including day service centers and community homes for elderly people in Kesennuma City (Miyagi prefecture) and Sengai-cho, Ichinoseki-city (Iwate prefecture). We focus on providing a newly-built accommodation in order to help our members improve the quality of life. We also offer members comfortable open space.

However, all of 4 centers in Motoyoshi Kesennuma City were swept away by the 11th March tsunami. One of the centers – the Poran Care Center – was constructed only eight months ago. Another center had been built by the state subsidies. Although it is possible to apply for subsidy on approximately 85% of the construction cost for this individual center, we must rebuild the others by ourselves. As our elderly community members urgently require services provided by our facilities, your kind understanding and support would be highly appreciated.

2011.11.16 Running a support center for victims who need living support.

Our four institutions were swept away by the Tsunami. Since then we have managed to build new institutions and do repair works of our old institutions supported by a subsidy.
However, we are faced with the problem of increased borrowings because we have to build a new institution before the outstanding loan is paid off.

Miyagi District Administration subsidizes only a quarter of construction expenses or the repairing expenses for institutions affected by the disaster. But it is not enough to keep our operation.
It is difficult to say that everything is already back to normal as before, but we visit temporary houses as one of activities commissioned by Kesennuma city after the disaster.
Also we have started to operate at one of four support centers for victims who need livelihood support.
It is grateful that we are involved with operating the support center of a living aid as a local nonprofit organization.

Inside our new institution!

2011.09.29 Opening our group home in the beginning of October.

Our group home for the elderly, “Aozora”, that has been affected by tsunami is almost completed with the reconstruction. It is very clean and spacious inside the building.

Spacious and cozy space in the group home.

The general manager Kimura said, “Watching the process of reconstruction from the beginning seemed to give us encouragement.”
We lost four institutions by tsunami and it is still very hard in the financial situation to restore them as before.
However, it is very touching to see the institution is gradually getting closer to the completion of the reconstruction.
We also put an emphasis on the support activity in the local area, such as visiting elderly people at temporally houses as a part of activity commissioned by Kesennuma-city.
We are considering management of another new support center in Kesennuma-city for future.

The new group home “ Aozora”

2011.07.14 It begins to take shape as a group home.

We are constructing a new group home which was washed away by tsunami. When we visited before, there was only foundation of the building, but you can see the whole image now. We can not wait completion of the building.

Alternative group home under construction

Also, we will patrol temporary houses on consignment in Kesennuma-city. We put a great deal of effort into local activities to be a part of reconstruction assistance.

2011.07.06 Prompt action taken on new building construction

After the earthquake, people who used to live at our institution which was washed away by tsunami moved to ‘The Poran Kesennuma group home’ in Higashishinjou, Kesennuma-city. 24 people are currently living there, despite the capacity of 9 people.
Therefore, Director Mr. Nobuyuki Kimura has had a rental building repaired and reopened as an alternative day service institution. He said, ‘I have made the decision to construct a new building instantly, so as not to decline in quality and comfort of the lives of the users.’
Construction of a new group home started in June, on ‘Poran kesennuma’ property. Quick decisions have encouraged the users and local residents.
However, we are suffering from funding everyday because we were left with the debt of the lost building.
Still, we are working on restoration being encouraged by our user’s smile.
